Taken from Baker Publishing Group’s website description of While Love Stirs:
Take one lovely young woman.
Add two ambitious young men.
Stir . . . and stand back.
As a graduate of Fannie Farmer’s School of Cookery, Charlotte Gregory is thrilled to have the opportunity to travel, lecture, and give cooking demonstrations on the very latest kitchen revolution–the gas stove. And she certainly doesn’t mind that the gas company has hired the kindhearted Lewis Mathis to entertain at her lectures.
Lewis encourages Charlotte’s work, especially her crusade to introduce fresh, appetizing, nutritious food to those convalescing in hospitals. But young hospital superintendent Dr. Joel Brooks is not convinced any changes should be made–especially by this outspoken young woman.
When Charlotte and Joel are coerced into planning a fund-raising gala for the hospital, will this combustible pair explode?
This is my second glimpse into Lorna’s writing, and I can tell you now, I’m going to have to go back and read the first book in this series following the Gregory sisters.
What I liked:
Charlotte struggles with accepting a strong man’s attentions because she’s afraid of being controlled, a fear left over from a previous relationship. But is there a difference between letting a man lead in the relationship and letting him control her? You’ll have to read to find out. I loved that the author tackled this social misunderstanding.
I also enjoyed seeing how Charlotte’s dreams at the beginning seemed to be squashed, but at the end of the book, God provided a bigger, better dream than she could ever hope to imagine. It was a beautiful picture that called me to look at my own life.
While Love Stirs is a good blend of friendship and romance, with strong characters who often clash. Though Charlotte didn’t get off on the right foot with Joel, I liked him. One of my favorite characters, however, was Tessa, the youngest Gregory sister. I can’t wait until she has her own novel!
What I didn’t like:
Every once in a while the writing felt a bit slow. Other than that, I loved While Love Stirs!
